Solar and batteries in Penrith and St Marys
Western Sydney summers are hot, and a lot of Penrith's power use is cooling. That shapes how we size solar and whether a battery makes sense.
The cooling load comes first
Penrith is a long way from the coast, and air conditioning is a big part of the electricity bill for many households here. Cooling is also a daytime load that continues into the evening, which suits solar in the day and a battery for the hours after sunset. When we size a Penrith system, we look at the summer quarter's usage as well as the winter one, and ask how many rooms you actually cool and when. If you can pre-cool the house in the middle of the day, that uses solar directly. The guide on feed-in tariffs and time-of-use rates explains why using your own solar beats exporting it.
Houses in Penrith, St Marys and the estates
Penrith's housing runs from established brick homes in suburbs like Kingswood, Cambridge Park, Werrington and St Marys, to newer estates in Glenmore Park, Jordan Springs and Caddens. There are also larger blocks toward Mulgoa and Llandilo, and homes along the Nepean in Emu Plains.
- Established suburbs: mostly brick with tile or metal roofs. Ask us about older switchboards, which sometimes need work before a battery or a bigger inverter can go in.
- Newer estates: bigger houses with large roofs. Larger houses often have more to cool, so there's usually a use for the solar.
- Larger and rural blocks: check single or three-phase supply, and where the best roof is. A shed can sometimes be better than the house.
- Low-lying land near the Nepean: if your property is in a mapped flood area, tell us. It affects where a battery and electrical equipment should go.
Network: Endeavour Energy
Penrith is in Endeavour Energy's area (Endeavour lists the Penrith council area). IPART publishes feed-in benchmarks by network, and for Endeavour in 2026-27 the benchmark for a midday export is lower than for the evening. That's another reason that using solar yourself, or storing it for the evening, is worth more than exporting it. Details are in our feed-in tariff guide.
Businesses in Penrith and St Marys
There are industrial areas in St Marys and Erskine Park, and many smaller trade and retail premises around Penrith. If you run a business with most of your power use between 8 and 5, you may be a good fit for commercial solar, and a PPA is an option if you'd rather not pay for the system upfront. See commercial solar.
Penrith questions
Is a battery worth it in Penrith?
It can be if you have solar that's exporting during the day and use a lot in the evening, which is common with summer cooling. It's less compelling if most of your use is during the day already. Our battery guide goes through how to tell.
Should I choose a bigger system because of the heat?
Not automatically. Bigger helps if you'll use the extra power or have a battery to store it. We size from your actual usage, then check the roof and the network's limits for your connection.
Do you install on rural properties near Mulgoa?
Yes. We service all of Greater Sydney. We'll check your supply type and cable runs when we design the system.
Does flooding affect where a battery can go?
It can affect where electrical equipment is best placed. If your property is in a flood area, tell us, and we'll talk through the options on site.
Is Penrith close to your base?
Our address is in Gregory Hills. We travel across Greater Sydney for installs, including Penrith, St Marys and the surrounding suburbs.
