Solar and batteries in Camden and Narellan
Camden is the next area over from our Gregory Hills address. The council area takes in a historic town, new estates, and rural properties, and each needs a different kind of solar design.
Three kinds of property, three kinds of job
New estates: Oran Park, Harrington Park, Spring Farm and around
Newer houses in the Camden area are often two-storey on smaller lots, with large roof planes and the switchboard already set up for modern loads. The questions are usually about what's already there. If the builder included solar, what inverter is it, and can it take a battery later? If there's no solar, is it worth choosing a hybrid inverter now so a battery can be added when you're ready? We'd rather talk this through before you buy than after.
Camden town and the older streets
Parts of the older Camden town centre, and some individual properties around the area, are heritage listed or inside a heritage conservation area. In NSW, rooftop solar can often be installed without a development application, but for a heritage item or a heritage conservation area the rules are tighter: under the state planning policy, panels generally must not be visible from the road at the front of the property. The NSW Planning Portal sets out the rules, and its Spatial Viewer shows whether a property is heritage listed. If you think yours might be, tell us early and we'll design around it, with panels on the roof faces that can't be seen from the street.
Rural and acreage: Cobbitty, Grasmere, Kirkham, Cawdor
Larger properties bring their own questions: single-phase or three-phase supply, the distance between the house, the sheds and the switchboard, and whether a large shed roof is a better place for panels than the house. Pumps, sheds, workshops and cool rooms can all change when and how much power you use. If it's a working property or a business, ask us about commercial solar or a PPA as well.
What to expect from the network
Camden is in Endeavour Energy's area (Endeavour lists the Camden council area). Rural connections can have different limits to suburban ones, because of the length and capacity of the line serving the property. That's one reason we check your connection before we settle on an inverter size, and put in the network application ourselves.
Camden questions
Do I need council approval to put solar on my Camden house?
For most houses, no. Rooftop solar is often exempt development in NSW. The exception to check is a property that is heritage listed or in a heritage conservation area, where panels generally can't be visible from the street. We'll ask about it when we do your quote.
I'm in a new estate and the builder put solar on. Can I add a battery?
Often yes. It depends on the inverter. Send us the make and model and we'll say whether it can take a battery, or whether a battery would need its own inverter.
Do you install on rural properties near Camden?
Yes. We service all of Greater Sydney, and acreage near Cobbitty, Grasmere and Kirkham is close to our base. We look at the supply type and the cable distances as part of the design.
Which suburbs does this page cover?
Camden, Narellan, Elderslie, Spring Farm, Harrington Park, Oran Park, Cobbitty, Grasmere, Kirkham and Cawdor. We also cover Gregory Hills and the wider south-west.
