Solar and batteries in Liverpool

Liverpool is a mix of detached houses, apartment buildings and large industrial roofs. We install for all three, and the way we approach each one is different.

Start with what you own

  • A house in Casula, Green Valley, Hoxton Park, Middleton Grange, Edmondson Park or around: a normal rooftop solar and battery job, designed from your bills. See the home solar and battery page.
  • A unit or townhouse in or near the Liverpool centre: the roof belongs to the owners corporation, so the first step is usually a decision at a strata meeting, not a quote. Read solar for strata and commercial roofs before you raise it with the committee.
  • A business in the industrial areas around Moorebank, Prestons or Chipping Norton: large flat or low-pitch roofs, and daytime power use. See commercial solar and business PPAs.

Houses: a wide spread of ages and sizes

Liverpool covers both long-established suburbs and land that's been developed more recently, so there's no single typical roof. Some homes are on large blocks with room for a bigger system and possibly three-phase supply. Others, in newer areas such as Edmondson Park, have smaller lots with compact roofs. On a compact roof the number of panels you can fit is the limit, so we look at higher-output panels and at how much you can use directly, rather than assuming a standard 6.6 kW or 10 kW package. The principle is the same as in our sizing guide.

Apartments and strata

If you're in an apartment block, a few things change. Panels go on the common roof, so the owners corporation decides. The power can be used for the common areas (lifts, lighting, pumps, garage), which often run all day. Some buildings are set up with an embedded network, where the owner supplies power to residents. That affects how any solar and the metering have to work, so ask the strata manager early. Our strata guide goes through the approvals, roof checks and metering options.

Industrial roofs

Liverpool and the suburbs next to it have many warehouses and factories. A large roof is only part of the question. What matters for the numbers is how much of the power the site uses during the day, how long the lease runs if the building isn't owned, and what condition the roof is in. If you'd prefer not to buy the system outright, a PPA means we fund and own it and you pay for the power it produces, with the terms set out in the proposal. Our business PPA guide explains the month-to-month detail.

Network: Endeavour Energy

Liverpool is in the Endeavour Energy area (Endeavour lists the Liverpool council area). Connections for larger commercial systems go through a more involved network process than a house does, so for a business it's worth raising timing early.

Liverpool questions

Can I get solar if I live in an apartment in Liverpool?

Not on your own roof, since it's common property. The owners corporation can decide to install solar for the common areas. See our strata guide. The federal government also lists a Community Solar Banks Program for shared solar, which our rebates guide links to.

Do you quote on warehouse roofs around Moorebank and Prestons?

Yes. Tell us about the roof and send a recent bill, or a year of interval data if you have it, and we'll put together a proposal for buying outright or for a PPA.

I have a small roof in a newer estate. Is solar still worth considering?

It can be. The right size depends on usage, not just roof area. If you use a lot of power in the evening, a battery may do more for you than extra panels. We'll show both options.

Who approves my solar connection in Liverpool?

Endeavour Energy, as the network operator. We make the application as part of the install.
